It is also one of the main causes of blindness worldwide.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A study to restore sight\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A <a href=\"https:\/\/spj.science.org\/doi\/10.34133\/2022\/9829316?permanently=true&amp;cookieSet=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">study<\/a> by researchers at the University of Southern California may have had an impact on the fight against these diseases. The aim is to use ultrasound to stimulate nerve cells in the retina through a prosthesis. With this technique, signals could be sent back to the brain and areas of the cerebral cortex could be stimulated. In one of the blind rats, a small group of nerve cells was found to be active in the eye. This did not work during the test. If the frequency was too low, the images would be too jerky.
