According to the study, a total abstinence from alcohol drastically reduces the risk of developing cancer. <a href=\"https:\/\/prs-healthcare.com\/en\/the-5-most-difficult-cancers-to-diagnose\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Some types of cancer are particularly difficult to diagnose<\/a>, but many can be detected by medical imaging&#8230; and in particular by a simple ultrasound scan. We wanted to find out more about the benefits of alcohol-free in the fight against cancer from our laboratory, experts in repairing all kinds of ultrasound probes!<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The timely study on Dry January 2024<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The study was published on the website of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nejm.org\/doi\/full\/10.1056\/NEJMsr2306723?query=featured_home%20%20%C2%A0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the New England Journal of Medicine<\/a> on 28 December 2023, just a few days before Dry January 2024.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">How does total abstinence help you fight cancer?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The study shows that giving up alcohol completely has a spectacular effect on reducing the risk of developing cancer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">After 5 years without alcohol, the risk of cancer is reduced by 19%.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Between 5 and 10 years without alcohol, you reduce your risk by 23%.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Between 10 and 20 years of abstinence, the risk is reduced by 34%.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">After 20 years, the risk is reduced by 55%.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">What about light alcohol consumption?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">During<a href=\"https:\/\/www.francetvinfo.fr\/sante\/drogue-addictions\/dry-january-les-bienfaits-pour-la-sante-de-l-arret-de-la-consommation-d-alcool_6277530.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> the France 2 news programme on 1 January 2024<\/a>, the journalist and doctor Damien Mascret stated that &#8220;<em>the reduction in risk will be less spectacular<\/em>&#8220;. According to him: &#8220;<em>There is no alcohol consumption without health risks&#8221; . He also refers to what happens in Europe, saying: &#8220;We see this in Europe. Every year, 23,000 cancers are caused by low alcohol consumption, i.e. less than two glasses a day on average<\/em>&#8221; .<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Which cancers are caused by moderate drinking?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Damien Mascret continues:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">&#8220;<em>21% are ENT cancers, obviously of the mouth, throat and oesophagus.<\/em><\/span><\/li>\n<li><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">4% are <a href=\"https:\/\/prs-healthcare.com\/solution-contre-cancer-foie-echographie-6-mois-sonde-echographique-transoesophagienne\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">liver cancers<\/a>.<\/span><\/em><\/li>\n<li><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">28% are <a href=\"https:\/\/prs-healthcare.com\/labo-reparation-de-sonde-mars-bleu-symptomes-cancer-colorectal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">colorectal cancers<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><em>And almost half (47%) are <a href=\"https:\/\/prs-healthcare.com\/le-cancer-du-sein-chez-lhomme-sonde-echographique-transoesophagienne\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">breast cancers<\/a>. Quite simply because alcohol increases oestrogen levels&#8230; And oestrogens are hormones that also increase the risk of breast cancer<\/em>&#8220;<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Target: Dry January 2025?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">So it&#8217;s no problem if your patients don&#8217;t participate in Dry January 2024.
